OFFICIALLY A Non-Profit!!!

Out of the Silence, Inc. is now OFFICIALLY a registered U.S. non-profit organization!  We fall under the category of 501(c)(3), an IRS code that designates the non-profit, tax-exempt status.  Prior to this, Out of the Silence was recognized as a state (New Jersey) non-profit, but now the national government also acknowledges us as a public charity.  This may not seem like a big deal, but this really opens up so many more opportunities for our organization.  Assessment for 501(c)(3) status is a truly rigorous process (I submitted the paperwork in September, went through one round of major revisions, and just received notification today), so having this recognition gives our organization more clout and credibility.  It also allows us to apply for more grants and whatnot, which will help us perform more outreach.  I originally said I would post the 501(c)(3) information when I received it, but apparently all I receive is a brief code, so I have decided not to post that.

Feel free to message me with any questions!

Congratulations on getting non-profit status. I know that's not an easy thing to do. Hopefully this will allow the site and its mission to grow more.

Way to go Caitlin!!!

FYI - I am part of a new non-profit organization called Women Founders Collective.  It is for anyone in the world who is female and the founder of a non-profit organization (or NGO as its called in other parts of the world).  We are connecting with each other and so far have connected with other women in Africa, India, and England.  Please take a look at our webiste (still in formation) to see our mission and our values.  In particular we aim to both mentor and mentee each other.  So if you would like to speak to other founders of non-profits to get ideas, resources, etc.  feel free to join us.  We just had a wonderful meeting near the UN where 36 women from various countries met and learned from each other and shared stories.  I am also starting a videotaping project and would love to include you.  You are doing a great service.

About Caitlin

Hey, all! I'm Caitlin. I'm 15 and, like many of you, didn't start 'living' until about 6 months ago, when I began treatment for the OCD I've had since I was a child. I enjoy photography, graphic design, web design, reading, and... neuroscience. I'm a geek in every sense of the word, but at least I'm happy. I decided to make this website partly for selfish reasons; I needed to prove I wasn't alone. So many sites out there are great, but not many are geared towards teens. I hope you all can find solace in knowing you're not alone. I know I have.
